Perfect weather means it’s a perfect time to build a fire pit. This is something that’s on my wish list this year. I know we’ll be building our own when the time comes so I’ve started searching for inspiration. I’ve got a list of several DIY fire pit ideas that range from simple and basic to slightly more complex. Plenty of budget-friendly options as well!
DIY Fire Pits are one of those projects that can easily be done in a weekend, depending on your skill level, time, and details. Definitely, some labor involved, but so worth the outcome. I can’t wait to check this one off the list and enjoy some fun nights by the fire.

This one from Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom is one of my favorites. Simple and budget friendly, but perfect. And wait until you see the setting they have with the trees and the string lights glowing at night. It’s an amazing backyard escape!
Serena from Thrift Diving shows you how to build a fire pit from a fire pit kit! Catchy rhyming, huh? She’s even got a video tutorial to show you all the details. As well as some necessary precautions you can’t forget before you get started.
Brittany from Pretty Handy Girl knocked this one outta the park. Seating, in-ground fire pit, and it’s the perfect place for smores and late nights by the fire. And her directions are spot on complete with measurements and diagrams.
Wait until you see the backyard transformation from The DIY Village! It’s stunning and I am in love! They came up with a non-traditional fire pit and the perfect landscaping to compliment the area. This one’s a must see for sure!
And if you don’t have the space for a backyard fire pit, check out this genius build from The Interior Frugalista. It’s perfect for a deck and so creative. Her space is so amazing and they even built a DIY Water Wall. Seriously?? I can’t imagine how peaceful it is to sit there and relax!
And talk about a makeover! This easy DIY Fire Pit from Madness & Method is a genius idea to use what you have and make it better. I love the spacing of the stones which allows for more warmth on those cool nights.
Melissa from Polka Dot Chair has a simple and fabulous DIY Fire Pit idea using stones from a home and garden store and pre made fire ring. No fancy installation is needed and it’s perfect!
Happiness is Homemade shows that you don’t have to build the fire pit to have a fabulous DIY Fire Pit area. I’m loving her cheery and colorful furniture that makes her fire pit area the perfect place to hang out!
This might be one of my favorites upcycles ever! A DIY Fire Pit from a washing machine drum from House and Fig! Talk about reusing something that would ordinarily be taking up space in a landfill. This one is definitely more complicated and requires some welding skills, but well worth the effort.
A DIY Fire Pit from a whisky barrel! That’s just what Tauni & Co did for this one and it’s amazing! She’s got a detailed tutorial on how to make your own and I love the creativity of this one for sure!
And this one from Eighteen 25 is the one I think my kiddos would like the most because it looks like a stack of Legos! Super crafty use of bright colored stones and a rectangle shape instead of circular make this DIY Fire Pit one of my faves!
This incredible fire pit area with string lights and bench seating was created by Jessica Ashcroft with the Mom Love Blog. It’s an easy project that you can complete in a weekend, using budget-friendly materials.
