DIY – Super Simple Fix for Scratches on Wood Floors

This may be the simplest post ever. I love nifty little DIY fixes for things around the house and this one is one of my favorites! Our house has dark engineered hardwood floors. They are textured to start with but seem to get dings and scratches pretty easy. Two kids and an 83 pound dog contribute to a lot of them, but dropping dishes (me), and moving furniture around (me again) don’t help the situation. Come along for my super simple fix for scratches on wood floors that’ll set you back about $5!

Are you ready for this?? Life changing folks. Not really, but it sure does help the look of my floors!Pinterest graphic with text that reads \"The Easiest DIY Fix for Scratched Floors\" and a wood floor in the background.

How to Fix Scratches on Wood Floors – Easiest DIY ever!

First I’ll show you a little before scratch that I discovered while mopping the other day:
Scratches on a dark wood floor.

See those lovely new white scratches?

Apparently one of my felt pads had come off my chairs and we didn’t realize it. So there are lots of lovely new scratches from that chair now.

And here’s my super simple DIY fix:

A brown sharpie marker next to a scratch on dark wood floors.

Mind blowing I know!

A Brown Sharpie!

That’s it – that’s all you need. I keep a brown sharpie in the top drawer of a buffet in the foyer so I always know where to get it and the kids don’t run away with it. Color in your scratch with the magic Sharpie and don’t worry if it looks too obvious at first because it probably will. Just like this:

A scratch filled in with brown sharpie marker ink on a dark wood floor.

It’s just a little too obvious where I drew the line. Get a wet paper towel and go over the area a bit to rub it in and make the edges blend and if that doesn’t work enough (it didn’t on this line), grab a magic eraser sponge and go over the spot and wallah!

I have used this all over our floors and even if I still think it looks a little too obvious at first, I can never find it again. It blends in perfectly. I’ve even used this on a few gashes on the floor where I have dropped a plate or two (oops) and it worked like a champ!

And there you have it – super simple DIY to fix scratches on your wood floors!
