DIY Christmas Decor Ideas You’ll Love

Hard to believe we’re even mentioning Christmas but as everyone says “it’ll be here before you know it”. Every year I try to make something new for my decor. It doesn’t have to be fancy or elaborate, but I enjoy handmade decorations. So bust out the crafting supplies and check out these DIY Christmas Decor ideas!

I can thank my sweet mom for my love for DIY Christmas decor – we were pretty broke when I was a kid. We had a tiny artificial tree – the kind that has the color-coded branches. And I’m assuming we had zero money for decorations so my mom made them. We had pieces of styrofoam leftover from something so she wrapped them in tin foil and tied them with a red ribbon. Those are the only ones I specifically remember.

But I know that even if it wasn’t an elaborate DIY or “Pinterest worthy”, we all loved them. So thanks, mom! You don’t need crazy skills or tons of money to make a few sentimental handcrafted decorations!

DIY Christmas Decor Ideas You’ll Love

DIY Rustic Christmas Crates

A miniature faux Christmas tree in a wooden create on a fireplace mantle.

This is one of my favorite DIY’s for Christmas that I’ve made. They are easy, simple, and you can customize them any way you like. I used a few simple supplies you can find at a craft store and transformed them into these cute rustic farmhouse style crates.

DIY Rustic Christmas Tree

A rustic Christmas tree decoration made out of wood dowels.

Another easy DIY using wood shims, dowels, and stain. Add some simple DIY ornaments with wooden beads and some cute little repurposed fabric scraps for gifts. See how to make your own rustic tree here

DIY Ruffled Tree Skirt

Randa from The Bewitchin Kitchen made me all googly-eyed for this beautiful DIY tree skirt. Every year I say I’m going to get a new skirt that’s actually bigger than a napkin and every year we have the same teeny skirt because I just don’t want to spend that much cash. But hers is perfect and I’m in love with it! Gorgeous and neutral so it’ll go with any decor style. Get her full tutorial here!A ruffly white Christmas tree skirt under a lit Christmas tree.

DIY Painted Copper Leaf Ornaments

Blue and rose gold ornaments hang from a rose gold frame.

I love copper. Old copper, shiny copper, anything. And these DIY ornaments from Giggles Galore are amazing. I love the non traditional way she displays them in a frame instead of the tree also. The best part is you can use any paint you want to go with the colors you use in your home for Christmas. See how she made them here!

Paint Stick Tree

A Christmas tree made out of paint sticks with a silver star on top.

Pretty much anything Karianne from Thistlewood Farms makes is stunning. You can count on it. And this Paint Stick Tree is no exception. Simple and genius all at the same time. With a few cuts and assembly, you can make your own! Check out how she made it.

Perfect, simple, and it’ll make your tree smell amazing! See how she made them – here!Heart-shaped ornaments with rose details tied with ribbon.

DIY Christmas Sign

Chelsea from Making Manzanita nailed this Christmas DIY using repurposed materials. Old spindles, wood, and stencils and it turned out amazing. I love how she hung the letters at uneven heights and it’s so simple and pretty. See her thrifty DIY tutorial here!A wall hanging with the word \"Believe\" spelled out in wooden blocks that are hanging from a white rod.

JOY Holiday Wreath

Amber from Amber Oliver made this simple DIY wreath  (see her tutorial here) using a white wreath and letters you can find at a craft store. I love the meaning. I know we forget what holidays are for and especially to continue those feelings year round! This will be a good DIY to remind us of what’s important! And completely irrelevant to the DIY, but can we just talk about that front door color! That would be bring me joy every time I walked through it!A white wreath with red letters \"J\" and \"Y\" on either side to spell the word \"Joy\".

Rustic Stacked Wood Christmas Tree

A Christmas tree made from wood slices with a red star on top.

I love the non traditional shape of this DIY tree from Randi at Dukes and Duchesses. It’s creative and out of the box thinking and looks amazing topped with that metal red star! How cute would it be to add some fun decor items to each “shelf” of the tree?

Thrifty Plaid DIY Ornaments

Round ornaments covered in black, white, and red checkered cloth.

These thrifty DIY ornaments from Emily over at Small Stuff Counts are such an easy DIY that you can customize to go with any color scheme. Or what about a sentimental shirt from a loved one?
