It’s a Merry & Bright Christmas Home Tour today! I’m so excited to be teaming up with several other talented bloggers to show you some creative and amazing Christmas home decorating! A special thanks to Cheyenne at Sense & Serendipity for organizing! I can’t wait for you to see the many different styles and creative ideas. We are so excited to welcome you into our holiday homes!
If you’re hopping over from Wendy from At Lane and High, welcome to Brown Dog Vintage! I’m a wife, mom, part-time pharmacist, and I started this little blog of mine earlier this year. This blog has become my happy place and I’m so happy you’re here to share it with me. So enough of the chatter and let’s get the tour started!
Merry & Bright Christmas Home Tour 2017
Our house has a wide open floor plan which I love. Instead of a normal entryway, we have a wide hall of sorts. It’s all fun and games until the sun shines in the front door in the afternoons and showcases every single dog hair and dust bunny that lives with us!
Entryway
One of my favorite antique pieces found a home in the entryway. I was lucky enough to find this enormous buffet from an antique store and it’s the perfect size for this wall. It’s still in it’s natural state – my hubs would disown me if I paint it. I use it to display things, but mainly it’s amazing for storage. And of course, our dog statue guards it all!

For Christmas, the Charlie Brown tree comes out! And I added a few simple things like our homemade snow globes. Homemade snow globes are a fun little project to do with the kiddos. Take a trip to a craft store and let them pick out a few little fun things like trees or snowmen, get an old mason jar and fill it with fake snow or glittery flakes. I helped them string up a few wreaths or snowball garland with fishing line and we taped it to the top of the lid. We’ve done this the past several years and it’s one of their favorite Christmas DIY projects!
Dining Room
To the left when you walk in is our dining room. We actually use it quite often so I keep the table pretty clean and neat. This year, I kept the dining room neutral, simple, and rustic. I shared more on our simple dining room along with a few easy DIY ornaments – click here to check it out. I added a $10 estate sale tree to a vintage crock. String up some lights and it’s done. Part of my goal this year was to use what I have and DIY some decor. I’d say this room met my goal.

Office/Sitting Area
To the right of the entryway is the office/sitting area. Our desk that gets used as much as our couch is here – it was a friend’s childhood desk and I love it! Two of my favorite chairs are here. And yep – we actually sit in these chairs. Quite a bit actually. The little orange one is a $10 yard sale find. And the green one is also a vintage find. My antique mantel lives in this room and tons of vintage goodies. A good portion of this room is thrifted or vintage. And I know there are tons of people who don’t want to scour antique stores like I do, but you can certainly find some deals if you like that kind of thing.
And what would Christmas decorating be without a vintage ceramic tree? My mother in law graciously gifted hers to us a few years ago and I love pulling this out year after year.
For Christmas, I also filled this room with greens and neutrals this year. I DIY’ed some rustic Christmas crates – you can see all of those details here , along with a cute little DIY tree – click here for the tutorial for this simple craft that anyone can make!

Living Room
And this is where the homemade and sentimental train makes a stop on the Christmas tour. My kids are 10 and 7 – they love to help decorate and they remember all their special ornaments. When I pack up each year, I make sure to separate their ornaments so they can pull them out then next year and bring back all those special memories. I get them a new ornament each season – something that reminds me of what they loved this particular year. For my son, it’s another Star Wars ornament and for my sweet girl, it’s a Harley Quinn figure because she dressed up as her for Halloween.
We have a fake tree because, you know, allergies. It’s 9 feet tall and entirely too fat for the space. The whole room gets rearranged when the tree makes it debut. We’ve had it for almost 5 years now and I’m secretly hoping for a flocked tree next year! It’s pretty traditional in here with reds and greens. I tried to get new stockings and my kids completely vetoed it. I really want to go a little more rustic next year, but for now, this is what we have. And I so enjoy their smiles of pulling out all the decor they remember from year to year.
The room is complete with some homemade garland for the mirror (because I’ve been too preoccupied to run to Trader Joes and get a boxwood wreath!). I added some red throws and holiday pillows from the Target dollar spot. And I found a garland of fresh greenery (testing those allergy waters!) to the buffet. And this post makes me realize that I am in fact a buffet hoarder! You can see our nativity in the background. It was a gift to my kids years ago and they still love playing with it and rearranging all the people!

I did bring in a touch of vintage with my red R.C. cola crate. My faux succulents got some sprigs of fake holly berries and that’s pretty much it. A DIY Joy sign from scrap wood and a deer from the thrift store that is coated in white spray paint found homes here too.
I dressed up my great grandmother’s antique washstand with some colorful ornaments and my letter board. And, yes, it says fresh avocado. My kids keep seeing a funny video that says this phrase incorrectly and they think it’s hysterical. Apparently our naughty little elf Doug wrote that on our letter board the night before I was taking pics!
And the final stop on my Merry & Bright Christmas tour is the master bedroom.
Master Bedroom
Let’s all pretend this is fancy. Grab some colorful ornaments that you didn’t use on the tree. Set them in random places and hang them from the shiplap. Or the DIY Lights. Done. My husband laughed at me and I kinda did too. I think I was just out of energy at this point. And the thought of hauling down tons of decorations from a room that pretty much no one sees just didn’t do it for me. I’m still using my DIY Calendar I made – you can see the details on that one here.

I am in love with your entryway! The antique buffet is stunning, you know me and buffets! I love your tree and the special ornaments for kids. Very similar to my tree. Every ornament brings back a memory. Merry Christmas!
